How to Install LED Rope Lights

Hey guys, John here with RealTruck.com. Today I'm going to show you how to light up you running boards with LED rope lights.

What we have here today guys, is we have a rope light, and this is a cut to fit so you can get it in a variety of different lengths. But you want to make sure that if you're going to put this on the outside of your vehicle, you get the ones that are encapsulated, because that's goann protect it from the weather and the elements. So you don't have to worry about it quit'n working on ya in a week 'cuz it's gotten beat up. We have some 3M double-sided tape that we're going to use to attach this to the bottom of the truck. And I'm gonna show you guys how to do all that here in just a second.

All right guys, as you can see here, we've got our truck up in the air. It makes it a little easier to work on it. You don't have to raise it up in the air if you want to put these on yourself. But in our situation we have the ability so it makes it easier.

So what we've done is we've gone ahead and cleaned up our rock area where we're going to install our rope light. And you want to clean it with some soap and water. Get it all nice and clean, dried. And then use something like say some acetone or something along that lines and don't use Windex or anything like that because that just doesn't work. You need something like an acetone type of product. Clean it all up, let it dry.

And then what we've done, which is not a real tough thing to do. We've taken our 3M tape, our double-sided 3M tape and we've attached it to the back side of our rope light. Now the way you do that is really easy. You just take some of the acetone, wipe down the back of your rope light a little bit, so that it gives it a good surface to stick to and attach this stuff on here.

So the next thing we're gonna do is we're gonna go ahead and put this up on the rocker on the truck and then we're going to wire this up. So that way you guys can see what this is gonna look like.
