Description from the creator

Smartass Garage's instructional video on how to wrap interior trim pieces of your car with microsuede (alcantara), demonstrating the procedure on my 2007 Mustang

This marks the beginning of a new series of videos where I teach you how to modify your car to make it stand out from the rest without breaking the bank.

Also, I need a proper voice over microphone so I had to make due with what I had available; I apologize for the non-perfect audio quality

This video marks the start of a new series of videos where I'll be teaching you how to do various modifications to your car

Today, I'll be showing you how to wrap a piece of your interior trim with a fabric of your choosing

First you're going to need some fabric.. I chose violet microsuede, as it will match the black and purple theme I have been doing with my car, however you can chooose whatever you like

Secondly you're going to need a strong spray adhesive. I chose loctite 300 on a whim, as I wanted to try something other than the 3m spray I had used in the past. I ended up prefering the loctite formula as it seems to hold better and goes on thicker, though that could just likely be confirmation bias

Read the directions of the adhesive thourghouly, as each brand and strength could have different application instructions

Lastly, you're going to need some scissors and an x-acto knife in order to trim the fabric to size and remove excess material from the finished product

The process is very easy and straight forward, take the trim pieces you want to cover out of your car, and clean the surface you're covering with soap and water.. be sure to dry the pieces first before spraying them with adhesive

align and apply the pieces together once the glue is tacky (following the instructions on the can), starting at one side and working your way to the other slowly to prevent air bubbles from being trapped

you're going to have to pay special attention on sharp bends and corners, as you may have to stretch the fabric a little, so if you're doing this to a large area, curves can become a problem because you can only stretch the fabric so much, i had some trouble with my a-pillars because of this

once you have applied the fabric, the glue has dried, and you're happy with it.. trim off the excess material carefully

if you trim off the material just as i did in this video, you risk cutting yourself which is really really stupid.. dont be like me and if you do decide to try it i'm not responsible for your emergency room bill.. an xacto knife would be a much better solution, i just didn't have one available

so that's it, clean, spray, wait, apply, wait some more, and trim.. it's that simple

you can even take this one step further and have the material emboridered with whatever want before gluing as well
