How to safely secure items to your roof racks

Learn how to safely secure items to your car's roof racks. RACV's Ernest Litera shares some practical tips on roof rack safety & loading:

- Make sure your roof rack is specific to your car model
- Make sure the items on the roof rack do not exceed 80kgs in total
- Use tie-down straps instead of elastic straps or rope
- Fasten tie-down straps properly and tighten as needed
- Ensure the roof racks are set wide enough apart to evenly support the load of items
- Make sure items do not overhang the vehicle by more than 1 metre
- Attach red flags to any overhanging parts of items (30cm x 30cm)
