How to dress for a ball on a budget
2014. May 10th
Today I wanted to show you that you don't have to spend a lot of money to look great at a ball. I am off to the St Andrews College black and bling ball. As black makes me look like a death witch I opted for the bling instead!
Here are my tips for a ball on a budget
1. Ditch the fake tan. It's off trend and you just end up looking like you have a fake tan!!! Use a shimmer powder instead and embrace your own beautiful skin colour.
2. Check out the dresses you already have. Can they be revamped, altered, shortened or have something added to look up to date? I'm wearing a dress I made in 1993! My Uni mates will remember it! I have given it a makeover and changed the neckline which has greatly improved things and it fits better.
3. Shoes definitely make or break an outfit so invest in the best you can afford to tone with your outfit. If you want to keep the costs down go to No1 Shoes and purchase a cheap and cheerful pair. Beware that the level of comfort usually increases with the price!!!
4. Buy cheap accessories - I went to Louvisa and bought the cuff and earrings for $50. I also purchased a new handbag from Colette for $50.
5. If you can afford to get your hair done then it's a very worthwhile exercise. BUT know what you want so you are not disappointed. Lisa from Headspace and I had a good chat and I took my iPad to the appointment to show her what I wanted. She adapted it slightly to suit my hair and the result was pretty cool.
So the key is to be smart with what you have!
