How To Frame A Bathroom Mirror In Three Minutes
ChannelDan ScottDescription from the creator
So, here is the list of material that I used for my mirror along with more clear instructions on how I cut my dimensions. I simply purchased all the materials at my local Home Depot.
Material:
The fluted trim I used was 3 1/4" wide pine. For MDF see paint instructions below. How much trim depends on the dimensions of your mirror and available lengths that are available.
4 corner blocks @ 3 - 3/4" x 3 - 3/4"
Liquid Nails Fuze It (1 tube)
Krylon Fusion Gloss White Spray Paint (1 can). If you can only get MDF, make sure to paint extra coats on the sides and back as described below.
Of course, the dimensions of your mirror may be different. Trim widths also can vary but you get the idea.
1. Measure the width and height of your mirror.
WIDTH (60 inches)
Calculate the width of 2 corner blocks which for my material was 7-1/2" total. Add back 1/4" to compensate for the little 1/8" overhang on each side of mirror 1:25. So the total you will subtract from the 60" would be 7-3/4" My fluted trim was cut to 52-1/4" for both top and bottom pieces.
WIDTH (42 inches)
It's the exact same thing as above except the 7-3/4" is subtracted from the 42" height of the mirror, which was 34 - 1/4" for both left and right sides.
Painting The Trim
Paint the trim in a dust free environment. Paint after you cut it and let dry well before adhering it to the mirror. Also, if you have plastic clips holding your mirror to the wall, you will need to carefully carve out the back of the trim so it will lay flat onto the mirror.
Pine is recommended for bathrooms as it withstands moisture if it happens damp or wet. However, if using MDF trim, just be sure to seal it very well with extra coats of paint, especially the porous ends where the material is cut. It wouldn't hurt to also paint the back of the trim in the event water splashed behind the trim. Occasionally, a little bit of water may get on the bottom piece, nearest to the sink, but if you wipe it off withing a short period of time, it will be fine.
