Drawing Tutorial - Freehand Lines & Circles
ChannelJoshua HendryDescription from the creator
Learn how to draw freehand lines and circles with just scratch paper and a pencil. This drawing tutorial also uses a simple red, green, and blue colored-pencil technique so you can see light construction marks, mid-tone corrections, and a final committed line.
No activity sheet needed. Grab any scrap paper, a graphite pencil, and three colored pencils: red, green, and blue.
You’ll practice:
• Drawing straight freehand lines that stay consistent in direction and length
• Drawing freehand circles and ellipses without spinning the pencil or using a template
• Rotating the page so your natural hand motion does the work
• Building line weight from a light first pass to a cleaner second pass
• Using a light color to sketch, a mid color to correct, and a dark color to lock in the best marks
• Warming up before drawing cubes, cylinders, cones, and other 3D forms
This is the skill the rest of the freehand form videos build on. It’s useful for middle school art, high school drawing, homeschool, and anyone who wants cleaner construction without a ruler or compass.
