Gem Cutting Tutorial - Faceting a Portuguese Cut Siberian Amethyst

In this gem cutting documentary, Bopie’s husband and international award-winning gem cutter, Mike, shares the story behind Siberian Amethyst. Mike demonstrates gem cutting and polishing by hand as he cuts two Portuguese style stones for Bopie's latest lapidary project, a custom designed piece of jewelry called “The Siberian Snowman”.

Throughout this video, Mike explains the gem cutting tools, equipment, diagrams, and supplies that he uses in simple terms, so that even gem cutting beginners can understand the entire gem cutting process.

So if you are new to the gem cutting hobby or if you aspire someday to provide professional gem cutting services, or if you were simply out hiking recently and stumbled across a pretty colored gemstone and were thinking about all the possible gem cutting shapes you could make with Dremel, then this video may help give you some pointers.
