Description from the creator

If You're looking to learn some methods to break the awkward silence. Then this is the video for you!

Why does the awkward silence happen and how do you break it? There are many reasons why an awkward silence might happen, nobody knows what to talk about, people are nervous and so on. And the way you go about breaking the awkward silence is by talking about something the other person is interested in and hopefully comfortable enough to share with you. I’ll be covering the FORD method, which you can use to break the awkward silence and get someone to be more comfortable around you. Let’s begin.

The F stands for Family. Everybody has a family, so it’s something everyone can talk about. Now directly asking family questions might appear rude and some people might go on the defensive. So I would advise that you start talking about your family first and then asking a question about their family. I would advise telling a story. But you want to tell a funny story if you say something like your brother died that would not be dropping the ball. That would be dropping the ball out of an airplane onto a fking volcano. Once you finish the story you can ask the questions like do you have any siblings, and if the answer is yes you can ask her to tell a story and if the answer is no you can ask a question like. Do you ever wish you had any siblings?

The second one is O which stands for occupation. Unless the person is doing nothing with their life they will surely have something to say about their occupation. And it’s generally thought of as a normal thing to talk about. How many people have asked you what’s your job or what’s your major? The important thing here is to be interested in their occupation. Give your opinion about it and ask them for more details. If you truly listen and care for what they say, they will love talking about it. Just make sure that you don’t go into interview mode and constantly ask questions. You want to give your opinion and talk about something interesting as well. Don’t machine gun the other person until they are out of things to say.

The R stands for Recreation. So whatever they like to do in their free time to express themselves. Feel free to ask them about their hobbies, what they like and dislike. Movies shows, video games. Whatever. Most people I’ve met in my life will always love talking about their favorite tv show or movie. In fact, some of the best movies and tv shows I’ve watched were people’s favorite’s tv shows. And it’s same for me. I keep telling everyone that Avengers movies are the best movies of all time and if they disagree with me, I just block them on facebook.

The D stands for Dreams. This one is kinda difficult to talk for most people and they aren’t comfortable enough just saying it to everyone. Society these days encourages us to play it safe rather than dream big and to pursue a “STABLE” paycheck rather than doing what we actually love. I believe this is entirely wrong and I truly believe that everyone should pursue their own path and do what they believe to be right and for them. If you can get a person to open up to you about their dreams, please don’t tell them they are unreasonable. Encourage them, help them if you can in any way. Be the one person that tells them it’s possible if they try hard enough. Be their hero, you might just change their life for the better.
