Volume OF Truncated Pyramid | how to calculate volume of trankated peramid by jana technic

How to find the volume of a truncated pyramid ? For this, you need to know the volume of the whole pyramid. The volume of a pyramid can be calculated using the following formula :

Volume = 1/3 area of base × height of pyramid

The volume of truncated pyramid is determined by subtracting the volume of cut out top from the volume of the whole pyramid. Suppose that the height and area of base of the whole pyramid be h1h1 and A1A1, while those of cut-off pyramid be h2h2 and A2A2, then we may write the formula for volume of truncated pyramid in the following way :

Volume of truncated pyramid = 1/3 A1 h1A1 h1 - 1313 A2 h2A2 h2

Volume of truncated pyramid = 1/3 (A1 h1 − A2 h2)(A1 h1 − A2 h2)

Let us consider a special case of square pyramid which has square base. Let us take a look at the following diagram.

Volume of a Truncated Pyramid Formula

The height of the truncated pyramid is h. The side of larger base be a and smaller base be b. Then the formula for its volume is given below.

Volume of truncated square pyramid = 1/3(a2 + ab + b2) h
