Botanical name: Agrotis ipsilon.

Identification / Life cycle of Cutworm:

Egg:- White creamy colour initialy stage but turns brown colour. Nearly spherical in shape or dome shaped, laid singly on lower of the

leaves. Egg duration stage is 3-6 days.

Larvae:- Young larva is yellow colour then turns gray brown to nearly black in colour with faint lighter strips on each side of the body.

The head is dark brown with numerous dark spots. Larva duration stage is 28-34 days.

Pupae:- Pupa are dark brown colour. Pupa duration stage 10-30 days.

Adult:- Dark and grayish patches onthe back and dark digger shape, streaks on the forewings.

Symptoms of damage:

Most damaging time on Nov - Jan.
Heavy damaging on seedling stage.
Young stage larvae feeds on the epidermis of the leaves.
Young and older larva damage the tuber, create holes on tubers.

Management:

Give flood irrigation on infested field.
Set up light trap 1-2 Nos/hec.
Clean the weeds from field.
Kept heaps of grasses at various places in the field during evening and collect the larvae in early morning and destroy.
During seedling stage spray Azadirectin 1% EC @ 3 ml / liter of water.

Chemical Control:

Apply of granules insecticide on field before sowing, earthing up and soil drenching.
Carbofuron 3% G @ 8-9 kg/ acare, Cartaf hydrochloride 4% G @ 8-9 kg/ acare, Chlorpyriphos 10% G @ 4 kg/ acare, Fipronil 0.3% G @

7.5 kg/ acare, Phorate 10% G 10 kg/ hec.

Spray Chlorpyriphos 20% EC @ 2.5 ml / liter of water.

Spray Novaluron 10% EC/SC @ 1 ml / liter of water.
