How to Create a Slack Account

To begin, go to slack.com. In the top right corner, click Get Started. Now you can choose if you want to sign in to an existing workspace if your team already has one set up, or create a brand new workspace. For this video, I’ll be creating a new workspace. Type in your email address, then click Confirm. Slack will then send a confirmation code to the email address you provided. Check your inbox for the message, then type in the code you received. Type in the name of your company or team. Then click Next. Now add a project or discussion topic you want to create a Slack channel for. Click Next. Next you’ll be able to invite your team members. Type in an email address to invite them. Once you type in one email, another box will appear below allowing you to add additional people. When you’re done, click Add Teammates. Your first channel will then be set up. Click See Your Channel in Slack to open your new workspace in Slack’s web client.

There are just a few more steps to finish the setup process. You can invite more teammates if you happened to forget someone in the previous steps. Type in their name and email and click Invite if you want to add someone else. If you’re all done adding team members, click Done. Next you can choose a greeting for when your team members first join your Slack workspace. Select one of the pre-made greetings, or choose Custom to write your own. When you’re done, click Save. Next you’ll be prompted to send your first Slack message in the channel you’ve created. Maybe mention what you plan to use that channel for and welcome your teammates to the channel. Click Send. To go back to your setup guide, click Get Started at the top. Now click Finish Setup. Type in your full name and a password you’d like to use to secure your account. Then click Next. To finish things off, you can customize your workspace’s URL if you like, or stick with the default one provided. When you’re done, click Finish
