Description from the creator

Deciding the authorship list for a high impact research paper can be a challenge when you don't understand the rules behind who goes where in it and why. This video discusses who should be in it, who should not, what order they should be in and why.
If you don't want to watch the video the order of importance is first author, second author, last author and the rest, but for more detail of the reasons and politics here I talk about
0:14 The basic principle
0:30 Why the last author is the third most important
1:53 Having joint first authors
3:00 Who gets to be a co-author
4:06 Who doesn't get to be a co-author
4:29 Technicians as co-authors
5:22 What a high impact journal requires a co-author to have contributed
5:55 The politics of co-authorship
7:40 The problem of too many co-authors

If you have any other topics you would like me to discuss please leave a comment below and I'll see what I can do.
