A Problem Statement is the re-framing of your design challenge into an actionable point-of-view that will guide you during the ideation phase. A good Problem Statement will allow your team to ideate in a direct manner, by creating questions based on your user’s identified needs.
Phrasing the Problem Statement as a question helps you generate as many ideas as possible along the way and detect new opportunity spaces. The key is to find the correct balance between being too broad (not knowing where to start) and too narrow (hindering creativity). Testing the correct balance will define the scope of possibilities and set you in the right direction for creating a solution that is able to respond to the problems of your users. Most of all, this stage accentuates the definition of your specific user (archetype) and his/her most relevant needs.
