Description from the creator

A step-by-step explanation of how to draw the Na+ Lewis Dot Structure.

For the Na+ structure use the periodic table to find the total number of valence electrons for the Na. Once we know how many valence electrons there are in Na we can figure out Na+. Since the Sodium ion is positive (Na+) that means it has lost a negative charge (a valence electron).

Whereas Na has one valence electron, Na+ is written without any. However, to understand fully you'll need to look at the way the electrons are distributed around the Na atom. on.

Lewis Structures are important to learn because they help us understand how atoms and electrons are arranged in a molecule or compound, such as Magnesium chloride.
