Drawing Esters Step-by-Step Tutorial!

Esters have two components. One component is from the carboxylic acid (parent chain, which attaches with the carbon in the COO group). The second component is from the alcohol (side chain, which attaches with the oxygen in the COO group).

Learn to draw the structure for ethyl propanoate in an easy way!

To draw the structure for ethyl propanoate, we first draw the functional group (COO group), and then we draw the parent chain with 3 carbons and attach it with the carbon in the COO group (Note: the carbon in the COO group is always the first carbon when numbering). Then we draw the side chain (ethyl) and attach it with the oxygen in the COO group.
