Description from the creator

How to estimate the height of a tree with a stick. I show how to use a walking stick or any other long stick to measure the height of an oak or any other tree. Great fun for the kids and very useful to estimate where the tip of a tree will fall when felled. Works because you are effectively using geometry, creating a triangle with equal sides. It is subject to error: you must hold your arm perpendicular to your body and the ground must be level between you and the tree. Beware also that a leaning tree or a tree which has a crown that conceals the tree's tip will give a false reading. Nevertheless, used carefully it is a useful way to estimate a tree's height when no other means is available.
