Description from the creator

Today's video is about how to find a good stringed instrument teacher. I'm hoping to make it easy for you!

It is very important to start off with a good teacher; even if you do not know if your child (or you) will be interested in pursuing the violin in the future.

Stringed instruments can be difficult to learn and, if bad habits are formed early on, they can be nearly impossible to break in the future. At the very least, bad habits can cause a student to quit because they just get too frustrated with fixing their technique when they finally get a good teacher.

The two most important characteristics of a good teacher are:
1. They instill a love of music.
2. They teach proper technique.

When you are considering hiring a prospective teacher, find out what the answer is to 3 very important questions:

1 What is their professional experience? Have they in the past or currently play with a group and are paid for it?

2. How successful are their students? Are their students in youth orchestras, where an audition is required to get in? Do the teacher's students successfully participate in competitions?

3. What is their experience level? If they are experienced, are they experienced at "taking money" or successfully instructing their instrument of choice?

**** Watch out for teachers who teach a multitude of unrelated instruments! This is a red flag! "jack of all trades and master of none..."****

Hope this helps!
