How to find out your average video watch time

Finding out how long people watch your videos for is key to growing your YouTube channel.

It’s probably the number one stat to track! Not views or subscribers believe it or not because they won't happen without good or even great viewer durations.

So to find this info out, you need to log in to your channel.

Hit up your YouTube Studio and now let's track one individual videos viewer time.

Type in the videos name in the search bar then select analytics.

You’ll see in the top corner watch time, but that’s going to be tough to work out on the spot what the average viewer is, so instead, we go down to this, audience retention.

You can see this video, in particular, is almost 70%

Now, what does that mean? It means the average viewer gets nearly 70% of the way through before their bow out.

Which might not sound great but give you some perspective, the average video is only watched 37% of the way through online, so this is almost double.

What else does this mean? Well, it says that it gets ranked on search and suggested views as well as the front page of Google.

This is most likely because it’s got better average audience retention than other videos containing those keywords!!
