1. Limp, leathery leaves: dehydration, but it can be cause by simply a lack of watering, or loss of roots! More on root rot here youtu.be/BZHTSYinzFA and how to promote new root growth youtu.be/pmPXOfyDW1g
2. Yellowing leaves: the 1-3 bottom leaves can be shed once a year or so. If upper leaves are falling it is a sign of stem, or crown rot youtu.be/64FPqaKmueI Here is my non toxic crown rot treatment youtu.be/iCZXr2HgRBM
3. Smaller leaves: always a sign of stress and set back.
4. Chlorosis spots: most of the times spider mites and infection with OFV. More on OFV here youtu.be/RFlP8a3oszM and how I eliminate spider mites here youtu.be/Ne0DPbXQfnw As a side note, there are other viruses orchids can have, such as Oncidium Ringspot Virus and Cymbidium Mozaic Virus, which look like circles, or strange patterns on the leaves. More on them here youtu.be/JIOZkI7cY4I
5. Yellow patches, or even dried patches: Sunburns, more on what to do about leaf burns here youtu.be/DfL-N24cuxs
6. Discoloration around edges, or center of the leaf: nutrient deficiency. youtu.be/cPMDO7gsjVQ
7. Dark patches or spots: Bacterial or fungal infections, if they take more and more of the leaf, they need to be removed, here is how youtu.be/rH0gM0b1YCA
8. Red pigmentation: Natural color, especially if the orchid has purple flowers, or contains red or purple colors in the flowers. Intense light, or cold temperatures if the case can apply. Red pigments are called Anthocyanin en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anthocyanin
9. Grey dusty patterns: Normal leaf formation residue. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glaucous
10. Split leaves: Pressure imbalance, can be caused by improper watering, or just malformed leaves.
11. Blisters: Oedema, happens with cold water, more info here staugorchidsociety.org/PDF/EdemaBlistersonOrchi…
12. Scars: just old mechanical damage
13. Purple dots: Normal pigmentation
