how to make maple syrup the homemade way

I make some easy homemade maple syrup. You can make maple syrup from the trees in your yard at home. You can also make syrup from a few other trees as well. You can make it on a fire for a great outdoors taste or inside on the stove. You also make it with a propane turkey fryer. It's that time of year again were the nights are below freezing and the days are just above. It's the perfect time to say good bye to winter and welcome spring with open arms and make some homemade maple syrup. This is how I make my maple syrup with the silver maple trees in my yard.

When looking for the best tree to tap try to find one that is about 12 inches in diameter. Look for a big root or a big branch and tap it there about 2 inches deep to reach the cambium of the tree where the sap flows.

The roots are filled with starch and when the weather is right they turn that starch into sugar for the tree to grow for the spring.

If you are not going to process the sap right away make sure you store it in a cool place 38F or so until you can boil it down.

Don't forget to try a nice cool glass of maple water before you start to process it into sap. It's cool and refreshing and one of my favorite parts of the season.
