Description from the creator

Getting the low-end of your mix to sound right can be challenging. In this video, I’m going to show you some of the techniques I use when mixing kick, bass and toms.

Please make sure you are listening to the video with full range speakers or headphones to hear the results accurately.

You are going to learn how to:
● Separate the bass into a ‘sub’ and ‘main bass’ layers, using an equaliser. This enables us to sidechain the sub from the kick, without affecting the main bass.
● Set Up a sidechain compressor. ‘Look ahead’ function explained.
● Use a dynamic equaliser to sidechain specific frequency area of the bass.

This makes sure the toms are punching through the mix, even when the bass is playing. The video was created inside Ableton Live, but the same techniques can be applied to any DAW.

Let us know in the comments what are your favourite tricks when mixing the kick, bass or toms...
