Description from the creator

In this astrophotography tutorial for beginners, you will learn how to photograph the night sky with the landscape (known as a nightscape). In only 8 minutes I’ll teach you about the gear you need, the settings for astrophotography, how to focus at night, what season different night sky objects appear in the sky (like the milky way) and where to look for them, what time and which moon cycle you can practice milky way photography, where you should go to avoid light pollution, and touch on different planning tools I use when doing nightscapes.

The photo was photographed with a Nikon D800e and a Tamron 15-30 2.8 lens. I used the 500 rule to calculate my exposure time (500/20mm = 25 seconds) and then dialled back to 15 seconds to try and avoid star trails. ISO800 was necessary to not blow out my stars and highlights, the presence of the moon made everything brighter, normally I recommend ISO 1600-3200.

I chat more about ISO and ISO invariance in this video: youtu.be/gi7FmhnSiwc (10:30 is where I begin to talk about ISO). I also discuss a few other astrophotography topics more in-depth than I could in this video.
