Worried about the Post-Match SOAP? Prepare a Post-Match plan

It’s Monday morning of Match Week and a candidate has just learned they did not Match into a residency position. Luckily, they had prepared for the Post-Match SOAP and know exactly what to do. The candidate knows they should:

Step 1: Access the List of Unfilled Programs from NRMP’s® R3® System at 11 a.m. (EST) and look through it to get an idea of what vacancies are available.

Step 2: Log in to their already registered Electronic Residency account with their chosen specialties activated to explore the specialties they are interested in.

Step 3: Search programs from the NRMP List of Unfilled Programs using the Electronic Residency Program Compatibility Search (PCS) system and begin finding compatible programs. The results generate a Compatible Programs List where they can further narrow down their choices.

Step 4: Take the programs they have decided on and apply to them within ERAS before 3 p.m.

The Post-Match may be difficult to navigate, but having a plan and resources will give you the confidence to overcome the uncertainty.
