Description from the creator

Earthquakes can strike suddenly and without warning. An earthquake is a violent and abrupt shaking of the ground, caused by movement between tectonic plates along a fault line in the earth’s crust. Earthquakes can result in the ground shaking, soil liquefaction, landslides, fissures, avalanches, fires and tsunamis. The extent of destruction and harm caused by an earthquake depends on:

1. magnitude
2. intensity and duration
3. the local geology
4. the time of day that it occurs
5. building and industrial plant design and materials
6. the risk-management measures put in place.

IF YOU ARE INDOORS WHEN A EARTHQUAKE HITS:

1. Drop down and take cover under a desk or table. Be prepared to hold on until the shaking stops.
2. Stay inside until the shaking stops and it is safe to exit.
3. Stay away from bookcases and other furniture that can fall on you.
4. Stay away from windows and light fixtures.
5. If you are in bed – hold on and stay there. Protect your head with a pillow to protect yourself from flying glass and other debris.
6. If you are in a wheelchair – go to a safe position and lock the wheels. Stay where you are and cover your head and neck with your arms if you are unable to move quickly to a safe location.
7. If you are inside a high-rise – drop, cover and hold on. Avoid windows and other potential hazards. 8. Do not use elevators, and be prepared for sprinkler systems and fire alarms to activate.

------------------------

IF YOU ARE OUTDOORS DURING AN EARTHQUAKE:
10. Drop to the ground in a clear spot away from buildings, trees and power lines.
11. If you are driving – pull over, stop and set your parking brake. Avoid overpasses, bridges, power lines, trees, signs, buildings, vehicles and other things that may fall on your car.
