Live Auto-Tune for worship vocals is less expensive and less complicated to set up than most churches expect. Jake Gosselin shows how his church runs real-time pitch correction on three vocals, plays before and after examples from their worship gatherings, and explains why tuning should refine solid vocalists rather than rescue them.
He walks through the gear (a digital console with a Dante card, an older MacBook Pro running Dante Virtual Soundcard and Ableton Live) and the signal flow: raw vocals out of a Midas M32R over Dante, through Waves Tune Real-Time in Ableton, and back into the console. He explains why each tuned vocal gets two channels, a raw one for in-ear monitors and a backup if the computer fails, and a tuned one for the main PA. Then the step-by-step routing in the console and Dante Controller, the Ableton audio preferences and track setup, the Waves Tune settings he uses (speed, note transition, vocal type, chromatic mode), and a raw versus tuned demo. If your console uses a USB card instead of Dante, such as the X32, the same routing principles apply.
