As we go back to school amidst this pandemic, let's turn our attention to a milestone that many parents, teachers and caregivers look forward to witnessing: a child writing their name.

While I respect every child's own pace of development and know that many a learning results from free play, certain skills need the guidance of an adult. Writing one's name or any letter or word for that matter is one of those skills. It is a long process that begins early on and involves many little milestones along the way. There are specific letters to one's name and proper ways of writing said letters. Strengthening finger muscles (fine motor skills) is further encouraged when adult provide plenty of opportunities for practice.
