Using an incentive spirometer help us to practice taking deep breaths, which can help open our airways, prevent fluid or mucus from building up in our lungs, and make it easier for us to breathe.
After finished the 10 to 15 exercises, its very important to take a deep breath and cough for 2 to 3 times. This will help loosen any mucus that has built up in our lungs. It will make it easier for us to breathe.
If you just had surgery, hold a pillow over your incision when you cough. This will support your belly or chest and reduce your pain.
