*UPDATE! I checked my issues with the reel sounding like it was throwing out more line and it wasn't! The issue with the line itself is just a matter of keeping tension on it. So the only real technical issue is the solid rod tip, but waiting for a nice bluegill to swallow the bait will solve that!
