I take a simple approach to writing most of my songs. I rarely write anything that can't be played at a campfire. For this song, I was inspired by a catchy phrase I heard on TV, then used it as the basis of the song and he first verse. Next came the main melody, then the chords, then another verse, a chorus and some final arrangement.
Anybody can do this in a couple of hours! Of course, you will refine it over a few days and maybe even a couple of weeks, but the core idea and structure can be done in a very short amount of time.
