In this video I will teach you how to write a historical essay. If you can structure your essay, then everything else will fall into place. Essay structure is everything.

So this is a video on how to structure an essay for a history class. Essentially, you can use three main ways to structure or organize your historical essay. You can use a Chronological, Thematic, or a Comparative structure.

In addition, I will show you how to combine these different methods to make your life writing this essay easy and fun.

In the Chronological structure, you arrange your essay chronologically, meaning - in terms of time. You begin at one point in history, drive the content as time progresses, and end at another point in time. You don’t jump around - no flashbacks or flashforwards.

In the Thematic structure, you arrange your essay thematically, not chronologically. You pick three (or two or more than three) themes that you develop, and your essay doesn’t have to be linear in terms of time. This way to do it has nothing (necessarily) to do with time.

In the Comparative structure, you essentially compare things. And I will show you two ways to write a comparative essay - the average way and the best way.

Next, I’ll show you how to combine the Chronological, Thematic, and Comparative structures to deepen your organization and to write bigger, longer essay or term paper.

This is especially helpful when you have to write 10 or more pages because the more you subdivide your main sections, the more easily you write more words and pages.

This is another College Writing 101 for you!
