How to Write an Ethics Paper

1) Read the instructions (the first thing the grader will ask themselves is, "Did they follow the instructions?"), 2) Download your ideas (onto the screen or paper where they're easier to examine and revise), 3) Make an argument (as opposed to simply offering an opinion), 4) Respond to an objection (something a smart critic might say, with your effective response), 5) Satisfy the rubric (if one is provided, check it when you begin, and before you submit), 6) Revise (good writing is RE-writing), 7) Engage the experts (summarize and build on the ideas of professional ethicists who've examined the topic already), and 8) Be willing to grow (improving your moral views, with good reason, isn't a bad thing).
