The average sales rank for a keyword should be between less or equal between 200k to 300k. You should always exclude non-relevant book titles.

2 - How to see if a keyword is too competitive?
You should check the number of reviews and publishers. The fewer books with 100 or more reviews the easier for you to compete. I also make sure to analyze the listed books and see if they belong to other publishers.

If other publishers are succeeding then most likely you can too. Furthermore, the fewer number results the easier. I like to keep this equal or lower to 1000 results.
