He uses 3 techniques using sine way sweeps and pink noise, then analyzing in tools such as Voxengo SPAN and Room EQ Wizard. Understanding what your room and speakers are doing to the audio helps you decide on things like speaker placement and acoustic treatment to help you get closer to a flat response. The advantage of this type of testing is a better listening environment where you can produce higher quality mixes with a more professional sound.
