Description from the creator

In this special video, made in collaboration with year 6 at Wessex Primary school in Maidenhead, young writers are taken through a step by step process to a poem inspired by World War 1.

The focuses on quickly generating ideas, and takes young writers through a series of simple prompts to write a poem which brings an emotion to life using sensory descriptive language.

The video works well as a standalone activity for keystage 2 students (7-11yrs) but if you’re looking for a warm up activity to try before it, this is one of my favourites: youtube.com/watch?v=cninAGtPKsE&t

This video is 1 of 10 made in partnership with the National Literacy Trust. The videos are part of a 5 lesson learning sequence that will be available free on the NLT website in May.
