Light was a central topic for the Bauhaus design movement. 100 years ago, electricity became available for more and more households. Many Bauhaus designers such as Wilhelm Wagenfeld, Christian Dell, or Gerrit Rietveld built various lamps to give the masses a functional, simple and timeless design. Van Bo Le-Mentzel’s lamp design is inspired by Heinrich-Siegfried Bormann’s "Kandem Rohrtischlampe Nr. 934." Bormann was at the Bauhaus design school from 1930-33.

This video is part of the series "How To Bauhaus." In these DIY tutorials, Van Bo Le-Mentzel, a German architect and designer with Laotian roots, explains how to build stylish and versatile furniture yourself. They’re all inspired by the famous Bauhaus design school which was founded in 1919 and celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2019.
