Crabbing in the Shrewsbury River - New Jersey (Aug 2018).

Blue crabs are a culinary favorite for the Survivor Diet. They can be caught in New Jersey in the bays and saltwater river systems from May through November most seasons. Their habitat extends from Florida to Maine.
This video demonstrates the use of a trotline to catch blue claw crabs. In New Jersey the regs limit the length of your line to 150 ft and 25 baits. This is quite small by trotline standards but the waterways in this area are not very large so a long line is not very manageable. We use chicken wings for bait spread out about 6 feet apart. The use of a trotline in New Jersey requires a recreational Crabbing License which can be purchased online at NJ DEM for $2.00 per year.
