Here's what you need to to do get out ice fishing and catch your first fish. How to Ice Fish for Beginners is a simple tutorial to help you be successful out there.
1. Get your gear together. Here's the items you need: Auger, Ice Skimmer, Rod, Reel, Jig, Pliers, Bucket, and Wax Worms.
2. Drill holes with your auger and go from shallow water to deeper water when Ice Fishing. Fish at one hole for 10 minutes, and if you don't catch anything there, move. STAY THERE though if you're catching fish!
3. Fish ponds or small lakes that have panfish, if possible. That will make it easier to find the fish. If you have to fish on a bigger body of water, then go near the ice shanties.
4. When ice fishing, you need to jig. This means, bounce your lure with wax worms tipped on it. You bounce it around a little, then let it still.
5. I said this earlier, but I shall say it again! Wax worms are the bait of choice for bluegill, sunfish, and perch when ice fishing. You can use other Berkley Powerbait imitation, and that will catch fish, too.
6. Fish close to the bottom. Let your jig hit the bottom, reel it up about a foot or so, and that's where you should jig. Fish usually hang around the bottom so you'll probably get the most action there.
Bonus Tip: Dress Warm!

Good luck ice fishing for bluegill, sunfish, and perch. I hope you catch some. - Tiefsa
