Spoiler Free first half, Spoiler Heavy second half.
I tear apart the new movie Annihilation and see what's going on underneath. Take a deep dive into this brilliant sci-fi movie with me and better understand what is the shimmer and the meaning of Annihilation.

Director Alex Garland has created a really smart sci fi movie here, so smart that Paramount backed out of distributing this movie worldwide and sold the rights to Netflix, technically making this a Netflix Original movie in many countries outside the U.S.

Natalie Portman and Oscar Issac star and on the surface, at least, this appears to be a pretty good little movie about "something" from outer space. There is much more going on here than initially meets the eye. You have to also use your ears to fully comprehend this complex movie about life, destruction and the future of humanity.

I'll explain how to watch Annihilation if you haven't seen the movie, how to watch if it's your second or third viewing and then I'll explain what I think is really going on in this amazing science fiction movie. Even though I loved Alex Garland's Ex Machina, I really think Annihilation is not only better, but possibly one of the best Sci Fi movies of this century. I developed this opinion, only after fully examining the movie and coming away with what think are some pretty incredible resolutions.

The Annihilation ending explained nothing to me at first. It raised more questions than it answered, but after thinking about what actually happened every step of the way, the ending makes perfect sense and is the only possibly resolution to this heavy story.
