UPDATE* look up the nyko power grip pro, it triples the 3ds's battery life, adds a another circle pad, and is a case. plus its only 30 bucks, it comes out this october

the thing on the bottom is a battery pak, it's the nyko power pak and it costs 20 bucks at gamestop, highly reccomended
step 1. turn off 3d
step 2. put brightness to 1(home menu, top left corner of screen)
step 3. activate power saving mode(same place as brightness)
step 4. turn off wireless communications (switch on right side of 3ds)
step 5. turn volume off
UPDATE: the weird thing on the bottom is called the nyko power pak, i believe you can pick it up for around 20 bucks from gamestop
