Description from the creator

Join your friends online games!
Hamachi is a program that creates a Virtual Private Network (VPN) between online computers.

What that means is that up to 5 computers (On the free version) can link together and have the same functionality as they would with a LAN connection.

So you can connect to your friends, even if the game has bad or unfinished online support, without having to open ports on your router.
