Minecraft water elevator Tutorial.

FAQ
Why doesn't the water elevator work for me?
This video tutorial is for the PC Java edition, version 1.13+.  It will not work in earlier versions.  If you play other editions, like Playstation, Xbox, or something else, I can't help you, except to say that it should also work on PC Bedrock edition.

I play in the Java edition 1.13+ and it still doesn't work?
The bubble column forms when there are water source blocks vertically above either soulsand (for up) or magma blocks (for down).  It needs to be uninterrupted water sources for as high as the elevator goes.  Placing water source on top only makes the top block a water source.  The rest is flowing water.  Kelp turns flowing water to water sources.  Just make sure you followed all the steps and it should work.

What's the kelp for?
Kelp turns flowing water to water sources, which is needed for the bubble colunm to work.  There are alternatives to kelp, (like breaking ice, or using a water bucket on every block) but kelp it the easiest with taller elevators.

What gives? I didn't need kelp at all and it worked.
If this is you, you are probably playing minecraft bedrock edition.  I don't play on other minecraft editions, so I'm not the guy to ask about other editions, but on the minecraft wiki, it says that on the bedrock edition, placing soulsand under flowing water automatically converts the flowing water into water sources, thus creating the bubble colunm.  That would mean you could skip the kelp step.

What are the doors for?
The doors prevent water from spilling out.  You could also use signs in place of doors if you want.

Isn't falling down into water much faster then a downward bubble column elevator?
Yes it is.  This is a water elevator tutorial and how to build it though.  Its not guaranteed to be the best or fastest.  Some might like to use the downward bubble colunm along with the upward simply to provide symmetry in their build. This video is made as a tutorial, not advice on how to build or play.
