PlayStation 3 Hard Drive Replacement Tutorial

This video shows you how to replace the hard drive in a PlayStation 3. This video shows you how to replace the hard drive specifically on a PlayStation 3 slim. The method for opening up your PlayStation 3 to remove the hard drive might be different for you depending on the model of PlayStation 3 you have.

It has come to my attention that Sony used JIS screws on the hard drive cage inside of the PlayStation 3. All guides I researched for this video mentioned that these screws were phillips screws and that a phillips #1 screwdriver, like the one I use in the video and tell people they need to replace the hard drive, would be all they need to replace a PlayStation 3's hard drive.
You might be able to take out these screws using a phillips #1 screwdriver like I did. But if any of the screws won't budge, you shouldn't force the screws out as you might end up stripping them. You might need to acquire a JIS screwdriver if you don't have one already to remove the screws from your system's hard drive cage.

This video does not cover any homebrew related software on the PlayStation 3. I cannot answer any questions regarding jailbreaking or custom firmwares as I do not have any experience with PlayStation 3 modding.

Keep in mind that this video was recorded in 2014. While the methods shown in this video for replacing your PS3's hard drive still work, including replacing the hard drive in your system with a SSD, the links featured in this description might not work like this used to. I update these links as often as I can, but sometimes these links may not be working as sites change over time.
