Space Engineers Tutorial: Autopilot & Remote Control Part 1 (tips, testing, tutorials for survival)

This is the first tutorial in a miniseries on autopilot in Space Engineers. This covers its basic functions, patterns and how to use each without running into too many of the unfortunate bugs.

The future parts of this miniseries are partially going to be crowdsourced in that I want you to tell me your own experiences, tips and tricks you've learned about the autopilot so I can share them and learn from them myself. If you've got any particular tasks that you think the autopilot could achieve I'd love to hear about those too!
