How to Apply Wet Eyeshadow
ChannelMelissa Van DijkDescription from the creator
Most of the shimmer/metallic eyeshadows can be applied with a wet/damp brush, and this will help you to intensify the colour and create a wet-like eye makeup look.
Tools you will need:
- Eyeshadow Primer
- Single eyeshadows or an eyeshadow palette
- Eyeshadow brushes
- A cup of water
- A towel or tissues
- Mascara
Step 1: Apply some Eyeshadow Primer
Before applying the eyeshadow, don’t forget to apply a bit of eye primer to your lids, which, depending on the primer, can help you smoothen the skin of your eyelid, avoid discoloration and prevent the eyeshadow from creasing.
Use your fingers to apply the eyeshadow primer and blend it into the skin all over the eyelid – from the lash line to the brows.
Step 2: First, Apply a Dark Shimmer Eyeshadow
To create a simple but complete eye makeup look, start off with a slightly darker shimmery eyeshadow.
Dip the round or flat, dense eyeshadow brush in the cup of water just enough to wet it. The brush shouldn’t be so wet that it keeps dripping; and if it does, you can use a towel or tissue to dab the excess water off the brush.
Apply and blend the wet darker shimmer shade through the crease and/or the outer corner and lower lash line—this depends on the look you want to create. Use circular and “windscreen” motions to create a soft but intense blend.
When using a completely matte shadow, it’s best not to wet it, as it can be very tricky to blend a matte wet shadow without leaving patches all over.
Step 3: Applying a Wet Shimmer or Metallic Eyeshadow
Choose any shimmer shadow that you like to use on the main lid and repeat the steps from the first shadow, then coat the brush well with some shimmer shadow and apply it over the lid. The water will make the shimmer look more intense, and that will help create a wet eye shadow look.
You can repeat the process for the inner corner as well, using a smaller pointed eyeshadow brush this time around.
You could use matte eyeshadow and wet it, but I wouldn’t recommend using it on larger areas, I would use it instead to create an eyeliner. To see how this is done, check out the next video.
Step 4: Add Mascara
To finish off the look, don’t forget to add a few coats of mascara to open the eyes and make the look pop!
