STEP 1: Do you qualify to drive for Lyft?
1. You are 21 years old or older with at least 1 year
of driving experience in the United States
2. Can pass a driving record inquiry
a. No more than 3 moving violation in past 3 years
b. No MAJOR moving violation in past 3 years (reckless,
driving while suspended)
c. No DUI/drug related violation in past 7 years
d. No driving-related convictions in past 7 years
3. Can pass a background check
a. No violent or drug-related crimes, felonies, sexual
offenses, theft or property damage offenses
4. Driver license, license plates, and insurance
a. Current and valid driver's license
b. Valid plates with current
c. Current valid insurance with your name on the policy
5. A smartphone capable of downloading and running the
Lyft app smoothly

Before you apply to become a Lyft driver, you need to make sure you have a qualifying vehicle.
1. It MUST be 4-door and seat 4 passengers comfortably
2. It can't be too old a vehicle
3. It must pass Lyft's vehicle inspection criteria

STEP 3: The vehicle inspection

*Lyft will only inspect your vehicle after you have been approved to drive.
You can have your vehicle inspected at the Lyft Hub for free
or you can pay a mechanic to inspect it.
Lyft will inspect all the working parts of the vehicle and everything must be fully operational.
Lights (all working)
Windshield free of major cracks
Brake pads good
Horn works
Front seats move forward and back
Heater works
A/C Works
Tires have good treads
Mirrors work
All seat belts work (must have 5 seat belts at least)
No warning lights on dashboard
Car free of major damage and dings
Exhaust pipe clear
If upholstery damaged (try seat covers)
The car must also look good inside and out to be approved.
