Description from the creator

I recently built some new jumping equipment for our outdoor arena, and wanted to share that process with you. These are basic 4' jump standards that are built from inexpensive materials using common tools. It makes for a great DIY project for a beginner woodworker who wants to learn how to build jumping equipment!

Materials for One Set of Standards:
- 12'x2"x8" pressure treated pine to make the base
- 8'x4"x4" pressure treated pine for the uprights
- 3" exterior decking screws
- drill and circular saw

Directions:
- cross cut the 4x4 lumber to size, 4' for each upright standard
- cut the 2x8 boards to size then cut a taper onto the top size of each standard "foot" to blunt any sharp edges
- optional: add a bevel to the top of the upright to soften the edges and create a more finished look
- use a drill and optional jig to create pinholes every 3" on the uprights for attaching jump cups
- screw the base to the uprights using the exterior screws, 2 per foot
- sand down all the rough edges and apply stain for a finished look
