Look also for a blinking light on the top of the printer. Newer inkjet printers may also have scrolling text that says printer ink levels are low. Check your printer's console before continuing.
Even if you refill your ink cartridges, they need to be replaced from time to time. The printer heads are often included with ink cartridges, so that they can be renewed often. They will deteriorate if they are used too much, thus effecting print quality.
