For the best traction during the winter and during any season, your vehicle's tires must be properly inflated. And to do that, your vehicle should be equipped with a tire pressure gauge. These are inexpensive and can be purchased at any auto parts store.

Tires should be checked at least once a month or any time there is a drastic change in the outside temperature. Checking your tires’ pressure should take less than 5 minutes.

The correct tire pressure for your vehicle can be found on the driver's side doorsill or in the owner's manual. The correct tire pressure is according to the vehicle manufacturer, and NOT the tire manufacturer. This fact may be a question on your road test. The tire pressure may be different for front, rear, and spare tires.

If you vehicle's tires are fitted with green valve cap covers, the tire shop has filled your tires with nitrogen. Nitrogen contains less water than air, therefore the tire pressure fluctuates less with temperature changes. Also, over a longer period of time, the tire pressure will remain relatively constant.
