How to Choose the Right Fabric

Not sure how to choose the right fabric? You can do it! This video teaches you the differences and similarities among the main types of fabrics recommended on sewing pattern jackets and how to make the right choice for the garment you want to sew. Things to consider are the different materials of fabric, whether or not the fabric is woven or a knit, and how much stretch it has. Types of woven fabric include cotton fabric, denim flannel and traditional linen fabrics. Knit fabrics have more stretch and are great for making pajamas, dresses or baby clothes. Another consideration that you should make when choosing fabric is the fabric content. Some fabrics are made from natural fibers such as cotton or linen, while others are polyester and still. Some are a blend of both. The weight of the fabric will affect its drape. Heavier fabrics will result in more structured garments, while lightweight fabrics have more give and flow and may require linings or interfacing.
