How to Color (Dye) Sand

This easy technique uses Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks and dry craft sand to create vibrant custom colors in just minutes - no drying time needed. Just add ink to a Ziploc bag of sand, knead, and watch the color come to life.

Color sand with alcohol ink is perfect for sand art bottles, Unity sand ceremonies, candlescaping, and all kinds of DIY craft projects. Even though this video was originally recorded years ago, the method is still a favorite today because it is fast, fun, and reliable.

Dry craft sand
Tim Holtz Alcohol Inks (available at our physical Ben Franklin Crafts store in Monroe, WA)
Ziploc bag

💡 Tip: Work in a well-ventilated area and start with just a few drops of ink. You can always add more to deepen the color.
